Who is Tracy Chapman? How did she rise to fame and why do people like her so much?

Tracy Chapman is a black singer who rose to fame in 1988 with her hit single Fast Car. Basically, it’s a song of a woman talking to her partner about getting in his (or her) fast car and getting away from the town and the lives they currently live in and going somewhere to work toward living a better life. Get jobs and work toward buying a house in the suburbs and just live better than they are now. In 1995, she had another single called Gimme One Reason. She’s won four Grammy Awards as well as other awards over the years.

I think people like her because she keeps a low profile. She doesn’t seem to be boastful or create drama or other stories just to get her face in the news. It seems when she has something to say, whether musically or not, then she’ll say it. Otherwise, she lives her life. She hasn’t disclosed her sexual orientation herself, but author Alice Walker (The Color Purple) has stated that she and Tracy Chapman were in a romantic relationship in the mid-1990s. Tracy Chapman is a very talented artist who lets her work speak for her, and seemingly nothing else.
