Do actors really eat when they are acting in hungry scenes?
Through multiple takes and multiple angles, Pitt kept on munching. 40 shrimps later, he was understandably feeling a little sick.

It’s a signature of his character throughout the movie, but it wasn’t originally part of the script.
Pitt decided early in filming that his character was always on the move and would be too busy for proper meals, so he’d snack all the time instead.
All these times, he’s really eating. It’s difficult to fake someone eating on screen. The only thing you can do is use a spit bucket afterwards.
