In mid-November, police officer Bruce Pierson was called to check on a person acting suspiciously near parked cars outside the Promenade Mall in Temecula, California.

When he arrived, he found Franki, an 18-year-old homeless young woman. She explained she was just moving between cars to find some shade. Her feet were bare, dirty, and covered in callouses because her last pair of shoes had worn out two months ago.

Franki had been living on the streets since she was 12 and shared that she had suffered a miscarriage the previous year.

Moved by her story, Officer Pierson invited Franki inside the mall and took her to a Payless Shoe Store, where he bought her a pair of shoes.

While they shopped, another woman saw what was happening and offered to buy Franki a second pair. Meanwhile, a shopper named Joshuah Rounds handed Officer Pierson $10 to help with the purchase and snapped photos of the moment. He shared them on Facebook, where they quickly went viral—garnering over 100,000 shares in just 48 hours.

Overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers, Franki left the store with two pairs of shoes, socks, a scarf, and a beanie.

Later, Officer Pierson’s wife packed warm sweaters, clothes, and a blanket for Franki. But the kindness didn’t stop there—Officer Pierson also connected her with an agency that could help reunite her with her family in Colorado. If all goes well, she’ll be home for the holidays for the first time in six years.
