This morning, on my way to work

Deera

This morning, on my way to work, I saw a State Trooper on the side of the road with his trunk open. Despite everything going on in the media, I felt like I should stop and make sure he was okay. I couldn’t see him at first, just the car. So, I slowly drove by, then turned around to check. I pulled up to the car, rolled my window down, and made sure my hands were clearly visible.

A white trooper came out from behind the car, and I said, “Good morning! Are you okay? Do you need help?” He smiled brightly and said, “No, ma’am, I’m just cleaning my windows.” He showed me the bottle and towels, and I told him he had the good stuff. He laughed and asked if he could clean my windows too. I said I was fine, but he insisted.

It was honestly the best part of my day—a state trooper cleaning my windows with some great Rain X cleaner! As I looked around, everyone driving by had a surprised look on their face. Then an older white couple stopped and asked if he could clean their windows too. Of course, he did. The lady offered to pay him, but he said, “No, just say a prayer for me.” So, we did.

Right there, on the side of the road, in the early morning hours, we all held hands and prayed together. There were white hands, black hands, officer hands, young hands, and old hands—all giving thanks in a way I’ll never forget. I was late for work, but it was worth it. It was such a special way to start the day.
