What was the biggest surprise when you were married to someone?

Deera

My wife and I were completely in love when we got married; our relationship seemed perfect, and nothing else in the world mattered. Our lives were simply happy—we were.

Then we came home from our honeymoon and started back into real life with full force.

My first big surprise was these little quirks, which I initially thought were simply cute. Eventually, they became annoying, incredibly annoying – some even drove me crazy. It was also surprising for my wife that I let myself get so worked up over such small things.

My second big surprise was that I woke up one morning feeling somewhat uncomfortable or strange about the whole marriage thing – even though I had been so in love the whole time.

I never asked my wife if she ever felt that way… I didn’t really want to know, either. In any case, she was usually fine in the mornings.

My third big surprise was what a wonderful mother she is to our two children. She’s simply amazing.

I try my best as a father, but I act more on instinct than by always really knowing what to do.

But now she’s not always sure what to do with her third child – her husband.

The fourth big surprise was that we sometimes got annoyed over trivial things. We argue about such tiny things, and then afterwards we feel so in love with each other again.

You simply couldn’t make something like that up; it would be completely unbelievable in a movie!

Fifth big surprise. After all these years together, I’m glad I married her. She’s still the one and I can’t imagine a life without her.

My biggest surprise? This marriage is a constant surprise. But that’s life.

Great marriages are not characterized by the fact that nothing ever changes, but by constant surprises.
