Who is considered a legitimate actress but is horrible in all her roles?

Deera

The question is rather harshly worded – “horrible in all their roles” is hyperbolic and certainly doesn’t ring true as far as my pick is concerned.

That being said, there have been times when the reception her work garners has left me outright baffled. I speak of the Mother of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way—Clarke is intoxicatingly charming. That is an invaluable asset as a performer and it is by far her greatest strength.

She has a wonderfully sunny disposition—warm, bright and joyful. And when she gets to utilize those gifts, she is a highly watchable performer. Me Before You being perhaps the most potent example.

However, problems arise when her character has any trait other than “gleeful and charming.”

When asked to play any other archetype, Clarke almost always comes up short–Terminator: Genesys, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and most noticeably, Game of Thrones.

There is a noticeable exception to this trend however—Last Christmas. Here, Clarke merges her charisma with just a hint of gravitas, hopefully signaling that the future is bright.

Clarke has charisma in spades, and she’s got a fair bit of screen presence as well. But some instances of miscasting have meant that she’s been asked to go outside of her wheelhouse—something she’s not yet adept at doing.

As an aside, I’ve seen the likes of Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron mentioned as responses to this question.

I appreciate that art is subjective, but if Cate Blanchett is “horrible” in any way, then you have standards that no actor can meet.
