Is this true? In Britain, if you are removing ivy from a house, you don’t cut it off the house, you snake a thick rope under it, connect it to a truck or van and tear the entire thing off in one huge piece?

I am not British and do not know the answer.

But I do have something to contribute.

When I saw William’s answer, I remembered that there is a stunning picture of it in my archives.

I don’t know if it was taken in the UK, and I don’t know if the ivy growth was pulled off on purpose (maybe even with a truck?) or if it came off on its own.

Honestly, from just seeing it, I can’t imagine that it happened spontaneously.

In any case, the picture proves that it is possible to remove the ivy in one piece and that the house underneath looks really good.

It even looks like the house was nicely protected from the environment by the ivy growth.
