In 1992, 18-year-old John Thomson was working on his family’s farm unloading pig feed, when he stepped too close to an Auger and it sucked him in and devastatingly tore both his arms off.
Unfortunately, he was at home on his own when it happened, so with no one to help, he had to walk 100 yards back to his house. He then used his mouth to open the door as he bled out. He placed a pen in his mouth and dialled 911 before passing out.
Miraculously, helped arrived in time and the doctors were able to reattach both his arms. Although he is 49 now, he says the accident has largely defined who he is.
