Mira Sorvino won an Oscar for her performance in the 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite. She was well-received in the 1997 movie Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. But after 1999, we saw less of her. It wasn’t for a lack of trying.
Mira Sorvino, along with others, was punished for turning down Harvey Weinstein’s sexual advances. This was not easily provable for many years. But after allegations about Harvey Weinstein became more public the stories just flowed forth. Of note, Peter Jackson recalled in an interview that he was told by Harvey that Mira Sorvino was a nightmare to work with. And Peter admitted he accepted this information at face value but now sees it was likely false. Consequently, Mira Sorvino was not considered for a significant part in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Mira Sorvino publicly thanked Jackson for confirming this. Now that Harvey is in jail and his prior actions are so suspect, Mira Sorvino seems to be making a comeback. Let’s hope! She deserves it.
