In 1993, Natasha Richardson met Liam Neeson when they signed to do a revival of O’Neill’s “Anna Christie. They married in 1994 and went on to co-star in more plays and films, and she had two sons with him, Michael and Daniel. They were generally regarded as a devoted couple, and remained untouched by scandal.
Then in March 2009, Richardson was in a skiing accident near Montreal. She at first said she didn’t need medical attention but only a couple of hours later developed a serious headache. She was airlifted to Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, but died two days later from an epidural hematoma.
That was fourteen years ago. Neeson devoted himself to his sons and his work and admitted on a “60 Minutes” profile in 2014 that he wasn’t dating anyone. It was clear from the way he spoke about her that he was still mourning Richardson. Even today there has been no gossip, nothing indicating that he is involved with anyone.
Natasha Richardson was a fine actress (her Sally Bowles in “Cabaret” is my favorite stage performance of the role) and a remarkable woman who gave freely of her time and money to support a number of charities.
She was also most likely the great love of Liam Neeson’s life.
