Around 1860, a new fashion trend took hold on the streets of London.
It was called Alexandra Limp.
Women intentionally limped when walking down the street.
The trend dates back to Alexandra of Denmark. She was the bride of the Prince of Wales.
Alexandra was a 19th-century fashion icon. Her styles were copied by women all over Britain.
Everything from her dresses to the necklaces she wore to cover a scar on her neck became a fashion statement in the 19th century.
Her style dominated the fashion world for nearly 50 years.
In 1867, Alexandra gave birth to her third child. During childbirth, she suffered a rheumatic fever that nearly killed her.
The fever left her with a stiff left leg, and Alexandra would drag it a bit when she walked. This is where the Alexandra Limp originated.
All the ladies started copying it by intentionally wearing shoes with uneven heels, creating a limp.
But still, in my opinion, Alexandra was really cool.
