We loved it but looking back now, I would NEVER let my daughter do this!
I don’t know how many hot, Sunday afternoons we broke the law with gleeful screams.
My dad would pop his head into our room and ask if we wanted to go down to the store with him. Hardware store, general store, we didn’t care, we knew what was next and wild horses couldn’t stop us as we ran out the door.
This was a regular sight in town …
Sometimes we would zoom past others and wave nonchalantly like we were in some secret club of truck-bed riders.
It didn’t stop there either. I was stuffed into trunks regularly and sometimes I even begged my parents to let me ride in the trunk.
Granted, this WAS pretty normal back then, but imagine if you did this now? Someone would call the police in a heartbeat and CPS would likely make a visit as well! Funny thing is, I’m only 32, so things have changed rather quickly.
While I would never let my daughter ride in a car without a seat-belt, let alone in the back of a truck, it’s a memory I look back on fondly. Even if it was dangerous as shit!
